Listen "She Was Raised Up - Conversation with Christy from Los Angeles (pt I)"
Episode Synopsis
PLEASE EXCUSE THE TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES DISPLAYED IN SOME PARTS OF THIS EPISODEIn this episode we meet Christy. Christy is a former women’s ministry leader with the International Church of Christ. Christy joined the church as a teenager in 1987 and left as a married mother in her 30’s in the early 2000’s. Christy describes her leaving the church as a process; as a peeling of an onion. Christy states that the church is proficient at scaring it’s members with the thought of going to hell should they not be members of this church. She discusses how she used to think about escaping the church at one point. However, the fact that her entire life was wrapped in this church, prevented her from doing so. As Christy states it, “to leave the church is to leave all of those relationships.” She also describes this process of the church breaking down her confidence and rebuilding it in their image for their purpose. Christy recounts her time as a leader in the church. She describes the church as all encompassing and her spending the majority of time with the church as a leader.
