This week we meet Tricia.  Tricia became a disciple while a college student at the University of Kentucky in 2017.  She left the organization in 2019.  Tricia came across The Reclamation and was surprised that she could relate to the accounts of the church that were being told.  She heard the program and said to herself “why is this guy telling my story” as the stories from the 1990s and early 2000s were mirror images of her experience.  Tricia was described as low hanging fruit by the other disciples around her because she was ready and eager to join the church.  Tricia was excited to join the church and learn al that she could about the bible.  She did not believe that she was experiencing a cult environment during her time as a member.  She thought that she was joining a local church as the members presented it as such.  She believes that her church purposely and strategically did not disclose that they were indeed part of the International Church of Christ.   Tricia’s story is a contrast to the story that current members tell us on episodes 25 and 26.  The current members tell us a story of a church that  openly and currently grapples with and confronts its past, while Tricia gives an account of a church that seems to circumvent its past as it recruits new membership.  Tricia describes a church from the 1990s eventhough she was a member in 2017.  Tricia mentions that she used http://reveal.org to help her navigate the confusion she felt upon leaving the church.  REVEAL is an organization dedicated to former members of the International Churches of Christ, International Christian Church, Sold Out Discipling Movement, Boston Church of Christ, Boston Movement, and Crossroads Church of Christ, and the Crossroads Movement.  REVEAL’s mission is to help others Research, Examine, Verify, Educate, Assist and Liberate.  You can visit them at REVEAL.org for more information.Support the showStay updated on Aldo's current and future projects by signing up for his NewsletterOther Podcasts by Aldo B.
