Listen "000: Trailer - Aging 2050"
Episode Synopsis
Welcome to Aging 2050. I'm your host John Robertson, Founder of HomeEXCEPT.com.
"Between 2015 and 2050, the proportion of the world's population over 60 years will nearly double from 12% to 22%" - World Health Organization.
How old will you be in 2050? If you're 31 today you will be turning 60. It's likely you will have parents in their 80s, 90s maybe 100s. Over the next 29 years caregiving technology must bridge a critical gap for managing aging at home. But what are the trade-offs? Where are the lines between prevention, privacy and peace of mind? In each episode I explore the stories I've heard from caregivers and professionals. Discussing practical solutions to real world challenges.
When I founded HomeEXCEPT in 2017 the original idea was "non-intrusive" monitoring. Using sensors and AI around the home to learn the daily patterns of life. Then notify when there were exceptions. My focus was on privacy. No cameras, wearables or listening devices.
In late 2020 we released Version 3.0 with a focus on prevention first. A paradigm shift in how we think about monitoring. Prevention first stops an accident before it happens. This requires spotting root causes and how minor interventions could prevent catastrophic outcomes later.
