Technology has come so far for personal computer use and gaming from when I was a kid to now.  There's a time and a place for the latest and greatest technology to get the most out of our investment.  But for those of us who have collected all these older devices, when do we throw them out?  Times of today have allowed us to utilize older hardware in an attempt to keep them out of the landfill.  And there's plenty of reason to invest time and energy into reviving old hardware and learning to code to make our own smart homes and not be locked into a random company's subscribtion service.
