Episode Synopsis

In the 17th century, Jesuit priests attempted to spread Christianity throughout Japan despite enormous oppression from the Japanese emperor. In Shusaku Endo's novel, Silence, Endo takes the stories of various monks from that time period and combines them to create a fictionalized retelling of the experiences that all of those involved went through. With this novel, Endo presents questions that many of us will be left to contemplate. How far would we go for what we believe in? What is the true meaning of sacrifice? Is it better to stand strong for those that we are leading to affirm their beliefs, or to allow our sacrifice so that they will not be punished? Nathan Aaron and Jason Crockett sit down with us to discuss this and more in today's episode.
