Episode Synopsis

Cécile McLorin Salvant is a composer, singer, and visual artist. The late Jessye Norman described her as “a unique voice supported by an intelligence and full-fledged musicality, which lights up every note she sings.” Salvant has developed a passion for storytelling and finding the connections between vaudeville, blues, theatre, jazz, baroque, and folkloric music. She is an eclectic curator, unearthing rarely recorded, forgotten songs with strong narratives, interesting power dynamics, unexpected twists, and humor.

Cécile will be performing at The Zellerbach Theater in Philadelphia on Nov. 2nd for a must-see Jazz performance. This event will take place at 7pm. Cécile joins the show to talk about her upcoming performance at The Zellerbach Theater on Nov. 2nd, her upcoming album, and what she likes about the culture in Philadelphia.
