The Pen As Medicine: Healing through Writing
In this podcast episode the host, Chandra Redfern and author and minister Shannon
Carter have a conversation about the power of the pen or words to help people heal.
Writing can help many heal from Trauma. According to a Harvard Review article, it is written that
the effects of writing as a tool for healing are well documented. There have been wings where
people have that writing helped them heal from a loss or other life trauma so that they could
envision a path forward. It is believed that sharing emotions through writing may lead to less
stress, anxiety, and depression. Our Guest Shannon Carter shares her story of how writing a
book helped her on her healing journey and has helped others find a way to heal from reading
her stories.

and effective way.  The transition of Shannon’s own mother opened her eyes to the need for a
greater sense of awareness in the church regarding this matter and served as the catalyst for
her first book “Love…More Powerful Than Death”.
