Following Jesus is a decision to listen to his teachings and put them into practice. Jesus said, “anyone who hears my teachings and puts them into practice is like a wise builder who built their house on the rock.” Jesus made some radical statements in his teachings like love your enemy, pray for those who wrong you, and turn the other cheek when someone slaps you in the face. In other words, let our enemies bring out the best in us. Why? Because we can show others what God is like by practicing what Jesus lived and taught. It’s a high standard, but these statements that Jesus made in the sermon on the mount are not just commands or laws to obey, but the illustration of a life shaped by God’s kingdom. Practicing these teachings make them permanent in your life which builds a foundation that will withstand any storm you face.
