Listen "Driven to Serve"
Episode Synopsis
Dr. Carla T. Galbraith is a born servant leader. Like many African Americans, the skill building process began at an early age in church. Her father and grandfather were pastors. As a preacher’s kid (PK), it was in her best interest to set a good example for the other children in the church. That was easy for her because it was a labor of love. She became an accomplished public speaker before starting kin-dergarten. Organizing programs and leading others came naturally to her. Those skills were transferable. She employed them from elementary school through college. She didn’t want to rely on her natural ability alone. She chose college courses to help hone and refine those skills. She was an excellent teacher and wanted to move into an ad-ministrative role where she could have an even greater impact on students. However, she initially found a dearth of opportunity. Although she did her job well and even trained others who were promoted, opportunities for advancement weren’t on the horizon for her. Instead of giving up, she expanded the job search. After excelling at a school in another city, she was welcomed back to her home town where she is thriving. Hear the journey and be inspired. How is your work situation?
