Episode Synopsis

Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley.  Today we will be going over Proverb 24.  I will then key in on verses 1 & 2:  Do not be envious of evil men, Nor desire to be with them;  For their heart devises violence, And their lips talk of troublemaking. Friends, there should not be anything that evil people do that should make you want to be like them, or entice you to be in their presence and partake in the things that they will be doing.  I also took a look at Proverb 23:  verses 17 & 18:  Do not let your heart envy sinners, But be zealous for the fear of the Lord all the day; For surely there is a hereafter, And your hope will not be cut off.  These verses tell us that there is a hereafter.  Once we leave our earthly bodies (and breathe our last) we have a choice as to whether we will spend eternity in Heaven or whether we will spend it in hell. It is our choice, and our choice alone, where we will spend it.  I will then go to the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 4 and read verses 1-11 in their entirety.  This is where, after Jesus had been baptized, that he was immediately drawn into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit.  Here, Satan tempted Jesus three times, and each time, Jesus responded by saying, "It is written."  Three points I would like for the audience to consider from this scripture of passage is:  1.  Do not be tempted by evil - if we look at John, Chapter 10: verse 10 we will see that the thief (meaning satan) will come and try to steal, kill, and destroy everything we have going on in our lives.  He is a liar, and the father of lies.  It can be easy to be tempted by him, if we allow him to do so.  2.  Knowing the word of God can help you overcome evil.  Jesus set the example for us.  satan tempted Jesus three times, and each time, He responded with, "It is written."  The question is whether we know scripture well enough to respond in that manner.  The only way to respond with the word of God is IF we know the word of God.  I will then go to the book of Deuteronomy (the book of the Law) and read Chapter 6:  verses 10-19 and read this passage in its entirety.  From this passage comes point 3 for the day:  You shall fear the Lord your God & serve Him.  We need to make the choice that, because we are saved, we should desire to please God.  Pleasing God will entail you keep the Word of the Law and following His commandments - not that we have to - (but because we want to please God.). Because of what Jesus did on the cross at Cavalry, we now have the grace to keep His commandments.
