Listen "Dorie Miller"
Episode Synopsis
Doris "Dorie" Miller, an African American sailor, became a symbol of courage and heroism during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Despite having no formal training in combat, Miller manned an anti-aircraft gun and successfully shot down several Japanese planes, and later helped save the lives of his fellow sailors. His bravery earned him the Navy Cross, making him one of the first African Americans to receive this honor, and his actions became a powerful inspiration in the fight for racial equality within the U.S. military.
