The first day of school is coming up for many kids in New York, and Governor Hochul has reminded parents to review new distraction free policies. Smartphone use is no longer allowed throughout the day in New York Public Schools. This includes during class time, lunch, and study hall periods. President Trump said he’s awarding former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This came after the former mayor was seriously injured in a car crash over the weekend. Giuliani led New York in the aftermath of 9/11 but more recently he was disbarred for lying multiple times about Trump’s 2020 election loss. Data shows New York kindergarteners have some of the highest vaccination rates in the country. WFUV’s Xenia Gonikberg has more on vaccines across the US.
