Dating: A Failed Technology?
What does commitment mean? In our younger years, it means finding someone to build a life with and (usually) to start a family with. Younger people often have a naive outlook on commitment, especially when it comes to marriage, when in reality, the divorce rate in the US is still hovering at the 50% mark.
In midlife years, our childrearing is (usually) complete, many have lived through a divorce, and they’re approaching life – and commitment – with different eyes. Commitment in midlife years is about putting YOUR wants and desires first and many people (especially parents) don’t know how to do that, which leads to a whole other level of relationship dysfunction.
