Listen "Woodbridge and Cumberland Coach Will Robinson"
Episode Synopsis
Coach Will Robinson enjoyed a highly successful coaching career at Woodbridge and Cumberland high schools, and he has been one of the most influential coaches in my life. Born in rural Cumberland County, Virginia, about 60 miles west of Richmond, Coach Rob was a standout three-sport athlete at Cumberland High. He continued his athletic career at Ferrum Junior College and later at Mansfield (Pa.) State, where he led his team to the NCAA regionals. After returning home, he began coaching at his alma mater and eventually became head coach. His career then took him to Northern Virginia, where he assisted at Robinson and with the GMU women’s team before taking the varsity coaching job at Woodbridge.Coach had an extraordinary run at Woodbridge and later in Charlotte. In our conversation, we explore his journey as both a player and coach, as well as the remarkable players and coaches he’s had the privilege of working with and competing against, including those at the US National Team level. Even in retirement, Coach Robinson remains committed to training athletes, and it was a true pleasure discussing basketball with such an inspiring and knowledgeable mind.
