Ron Shelburne grew up in Southwest Virginia, the son of a farmer, and brought a strong work ethic to everything he did. He made a name for himself as a standout post player at Pulaski County High School, then went on to have a Hall of Fame career at Radford University, playing for legendary coaches Joe Davis and Oliver Purnell.In our conversation, Ron talks about what has made Pulaski so successful in both football and basketball. He shares great stories from his playing days, including memories of teammates like Mike Porter. Though he was a late bloomer, Ron quickly found his place at Radford and became a steady starter during an important time for the Highlanders’ basketball program.After his playing days, Ron built a successful career in the insurance business. He’s done amazing in sales and now works in a leadership role with Farm Bureau Insurance.
