In America there is sometimes an unfortunate combining of Patriotism and the Christian faith. This has resulted in some people lumping the two together - both the good and the bad parts of it - as well as people who are attempting to be true to their Christian beliefs unwillingly and unknowingly (at least we hope) attempting to force their beliefs on others through political measures. This has given the Christian faith a bad name in America - and we are not doing anything good on our own to help with that at times.
