One of the hardest things for us to truly understand is God’s grace. Grace is God’s undeserved love for sinners. Why is that so hard to understand? Because we always think we do something to deserve it. “I’m better than she is because…” “God should love me because…” “If anybody’s going to make it into heaven, it’s me because…” So Jesus tells us a story—a parable. When you hear it, it’s probably going to drive you crazy, because it sounds like God isn’t fair. What Jesus teaches us is that if God doesn’t seem to be fair, it’s because he’s so gracious. “By grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).
