Listen "63: Thriving After Trauma with Shari Botwin "
Episode Synopsis
I loved my interview with Shari as so much of what she said resonated with me! We are both survivors and therapists and understand what it’s like to sit in both chairs in the counsellor’s room. And we also understand that healing after trauma is not always easy but is so worth it. Shari Botwin, LCSW has been counselling survivors in recovery from trauma and abuse for over 24 years in her South Jersey practice. Her second book, "Thriving After Trauma: Stories of Living and Healing," is a compilation of patient stories and some about her recovery after surviving childhood sexual abuse. Shari Botwin just launched the podcast, Warrior Women Speak, with Judge Rosemarie Aquilina Some key points from our interview:· How she recognises that food became her comfort from a young age· How she understands that she numbed out from the abuse, that always took place at night, as form of protection· How the memories of her childhood abuse were triggered when she starting working with people that also had eating disorders and she decided to start therapy· How becoming a mother, she learnt that she was capable of giving love even though she had never received it· How she recognises that healing after abuse is a long, painful and messy journey but a very worthwhile one · How going public by writing about her story in the newspaper not only helped her but so many other people too You can find out more about Shari here www.sharibotwin.com * * * * "Unbroken: Healing Through Storytelling" features individuals who have all triumphed after adversity and have not just bounced back in life, but forward and are now making a difference for others.Hosted by Madeleine Black, the show will share stories of all the amazing people Madeleine has met on her own journey as an author/speaker and these stories will heal, motivate, inspire and bring hope when they share their wisdom and knowledge with her.She really believes in the power that comes when we share our stories, that in fact we are not story tellers but story healers.
