Listen "36: Forgiveness Redefined with Candice Mama"
Episode Synopsis
I was in awe of the resilience, strength and massive heart of my guest this week. Can you imagine going to meet your father’s murderer in prison, shake hands, hug and forgive him? That’s exactly what she did!Candice Mama is the author of “Forgiveness Redefined” and started her work in forgiveness, reconciliation and trauma after her story of forgiving Eugene De Kock, made international news. Having been inundated with requests to show people how to forgive, she went on to become an award-winning international speaker and her story has even been heard by The Dalai Lama. She was chosen to lead the UN backed initiative Women Power in South Africa (making her the youngest member to hold the position) and is making her mark in the humanitarian field all before the age of thirtyShe is one of Vogue Magazine’s top 33 most inspiring women in the world alongside: Nicole Kidman, Michelle Obama and Malala Some key points from our interview:· How her stress symptoms were so severe at 16 that she thought she was having a heart attack but how being that low was a catalyst for her to change her life· How she realised that if she allowed it that her father’s killer would kill her too if she didn’t live differently· How she sees that realisation was a blessing as she feels she wouldn’t be here today · How she found the strength to go to prison to meet the man who murdered her father · How she understood that forgiveness was for her and not Eugene De Kock· How she realised that holding onto her trauma and narrative kept her in her pain and she chose to let it go through forgivenessYou can get more info about Candice here: https://www.candicemama.com/about* * * *"Unbroken: Healing Through Storytelling" features individuals who have all triumphed after adversity and have not just bounced back in life, but forward and are now making a difference for others.Hosted by Madeleine Black, the show will share stories of all the amazing people Madeleine has met on her own journey as an author/speaker and these stories will heal, motivate, inspire and bring hope when they share their wisdom and knowledge with her.She really believes in the power that comes when we share our stories, that in fact we are not story tellers but story healers.
