After several episodes of severe diabetes burnout and a diagnosis of chronic kidney disease, Dan Newman felt like he’d ‘failed the test’ as a person with type 1 diabetes. But a job at a diabetes charity would change his life, as working among other people with the condition gave him permission to become his authentic self and helped him to overcome feelings of shame and loneliness.
