Some years ago I found myself caught up in the aftermath of a bombing and subsequent rioting. Mindful of my safety my hosts wisely insisted that I should remain ‘locked down’ until the danger had passed. It was a strange experience being in isolation while just yards away the streets were in chaos. 



When I finally walked out again things were different – there was tension in the air and uncertainty about what could happen. At one point I had no choice but to make a journey that involved some risk. These words from Psalm 28:7 came to mind ‘The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.’ I immediately sensed God’s peace and knew that I would be OK.



As we begin to emerge from the Covid-19 lockdown there is much uncertainty about what the future holds, with many feeling anxious and afraid. But God offers the same reassurance to all of us with his promise to be our ‘strength and shield.’ Like the Psalmist we can choose to put our trust in God who is the same yesterday, today and forever; and like him discover that we are ‘helped’.
