Listen "Wine from Italy : Barolo from Piedmonte , known as “the wine of kings”"
Episode Synopsis
When Italy was ruled as a monarchy, its royal family hailed from Piedmonte, expressing a passion for regional Barolo wine produced from native Nebbiolo grape. Hence, Barolo became known as "the wine of kings". Nebbiolo is quite a challenging grape to harvest, yet Barolo's misty + damp climate provides the perfect conditions for sustainable growth. Did you know that "Nebbia" is the Italian word for mist / fog ? And since The 1800's, Barolo has been closely associated with the Conterno winegrowing family, with legendary Aldo Conterno long considered to be the most talented winemaker in Barolo's storied history. David Kohl recalls his travels through Italy where he was pleased to be acquainted with family descendants Giorgio & Paolo Conterno. #italianwine #aldoconterno #barolo #piedmontewine #learnaboutwine
