Episode Synopsis
Doubts, Questions and Wounded HealersReverend Jake Strumm of the Anglican Relief and Development Fund shares with us some profound and inspiring thoughts as we look at the story of Jesus and Thomas. We pick up the story as we find the followers of Jesus completely devastated and scattered after their friend and brother has died.Jake shares some powerful stories about the work of God and Christians throughout the world, coming alongside those who have been devastated by natural disasters, poverty, upheaval. We remember that each of us has been wounded in different ways in our lives. Physically, emotionally, spiritually. We learn from Jesus who has been wounded, and yet He welcomes his friend, Thomas and his doubts up close. We may doubt God because of so many natural disasters, devastations, death, and atrocities; but then we see people experiencing the disaster, and they're demonstrating great faith in God, and it puts us in check. When we are tempted to doubt God because of the way the Church is behaving, we also see authentic Christians all over the world demonstrating grace and displays of Christ-like service to one another, and it puts us in check.Jake reminds us that the Church is Called to be in the rubble with people. When people are going through hard times, we are called to engage. When we are in the rubble with people, (the challenges, the heartbreaks, the devastations) then we are truly doing the work of Jesus and fulfilling what we are called to, to love our neighbor, to love one another as He has loved us.May each of us discover the paradox of our beautiful wounds.May each of us become wounded healers in our spheres of influence.May we remember that we are always welcomed by God to bring our "doubting Thomas" hearts to Jesus each and every day.
