Episode Synopsis

Peter's pride and hubris have led him to the same place that all of us are capable of going to – self-sufficiency. Peter felt that he could do what the other disciples could not – persevere through difficulty on his own power. Prayerlessness, comparison, and pride left Peter unprepared and exposed to the slightest provocation, at which he instantly fell. Sin makes men weak even as it continually demands more and more of us. Peter went from evading a question, to telling a lie while using the Lord's name in vain, to mixing his lies with swearing and cursing. Like the time out at sea, Peter will continue to sink when he looks at his surroundings, but when he looks to the Saviour, he is rescued and restored. In these things, Peter's example is instructive for all of us. Our charge is to trade in our self-sufficiency for the intercession of Jesus. His grace is sufficient for us (2 Cor. 12:9).
