Depression is more than just sadness—it's the feeling of severe despondency, a deep loss of hope and courage. When someone is in a state of low spirits, they are disconnected from true substance—God's Spirit—and from reproach, which is the ability to resist and rebuke lies. To be free from depression, one must turn away from despondency and become a respondent to the Truth. Despondency leads to spiritual darkness, distance from love, and vulnerability to lies that compress the soul. Responding to the Truth means actively choosing to believe and live by God's Word—rejecting lies, embracing love, and walking in the light. As Jesus said: “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body... If your eye is unhealthy, your body is filled with darkness.” — Luke 11:34-36 “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” — John 8:12 When your spirit isn't operating in the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—then you're being weighed down by spiritual oppression. The cure begins by: Turning away from false, dark content—anything that steals love, peace, and joy. Responding to God's instruction, knowing that as your Creator, He knows exactly how you're meant to function. And who is the Truth? Jesus. When you respond to Him, healing begins.
