Listen "Ep. 43 - Rider, Coach, and Legend"
Episode Synopsis
Bill Humphreys started riding out of necessity. He'd gotten into some trouble because of traffic tickets. So, he sold his car and bought a bike and began riding. He rode his bike everywhere in the San Diego area. he eventually started riding with the San Diego bike club. His first race was a time trial and got hooked to the bike. Two years later he would ride across America. He'd eventually settle in Princeton, New Jersey and ride with the Century bike club. Riding with the Century bike club is when his real education began with high caliber racing. After competing in nationals Bill was chosen to do the Tour of Ireland. That same year he would end up riding the worlds in Barcelona. He spent a few more years traveling the world and racing but eventually turned to coaching in North Carolina. He would soon get a call from the federation to coach to juniors for the national team. The list of riders he looked after are a who's who of American cycling. Bill worked with Greg Lemond to Ron Kiefel. As time went on he moved on to real life as he explains it. Bill would work as a trucker and is currently in sales and writing a book about his life. We recently spoke about life, cycling and the bike which he called the instrument of expansion and personal growth. Enjoy!
