On January 13th, HBO released the first three episodes of Peacemaker, a spin-off television series of The Suicide Squad film that came out in August of last summer. The show was conceived, written, and directed, by James Gunn, the only filmmaker to direct for both Marvel and DC. He originally envisioned Dave Bautista taking on the titular role due to their relationship on Guardians, but Bautista was too busy with Zack Snyder’s zombie movie, Army of the Dead. John Cena, who hosted the revival of Wipeout we reviewed last year, plays Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker. The premise of this season is that Chris and his handlers, a team of misfits associated with Belle Reve Prison are assigned Project Butterfly, which poses a risk to all humanity based on the ending shot of episode three. So what do we make of Warner Bro’s vigilante show?
