Parents can be protective and often with our best interest in mind. Playing outside as a child I remember being reminded to "shut the gates" a warning that was meant to protect me from the danger that may exist on the other side. The conversation between the disciples, particularly peter reminded me of my mom's quest to protect me. Jesus blessed Peter for hearing and responding as God would have him respond, with credible Faith that Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus tells Peter that he will build his church on/in him so that the gates of hell will not prevail against him. In Christ we are made new and our new life gives us the courage, faith and strength to shut the door to sin....
