Coming into the new life requires taking off more than just our sins. It requires us taking off the producer of our sins: the old man. The old man is the inherit nature that every person is born with. This nature is the primary producer of a life opposite of God. So, if we are all born with this nature then in order to enter into a relationship with God or to become righteous, we have to put off this nature. This is what being 'born-again' means. To be born again is about taking off an old way of living, a life that habitually sinned, and putting on the new life, the life of Christ.
