Point: When you think you’ve had enough, ask yourself: Is Jesus really enough?
Scripture: Luke 7:18-23
Principles for studying a passage of Scripture:
Comprehension: Asks - What does the passage say?
Interpretation: Asks - What does the passage mean?
Application: Asks - How should this passage change me?
Questions:
Comprehension: What is happening in this passage? What sticks out? Have each group member summarize the story in their own words.
Interpretation: What do you think John is asking Jesus in verse 19? What’s the point of his question? Explain.
Interpretation: Why is it so easy to question God or even doubt Him when in the middle of a crisis? Explain.
Interpretation: In verse 22, Jesus reminds John of all the ways He is working. Why is it important to remember everything that God has done when we are going through trials?
Interpretation: Why do you think Jesus says, “blessed is the one who is not offended by me”? Explain.
Application: How do you tend to respond when Jesus doesn’t come through the way you want Him to? Do you get offended? Do you worship? Explain your answer.
Application: What keeps you close to Jesus in all of your adversity? Why does that help? Explain.
Application: Ultimately, Jesus experienced what it was like to have His Father not come through the way He wanted Him to when He went to the cross. How can we better conform to the image of Jesus in times of trial and suffering?
