Listen "Stephen Beaulac: SB Design Co"
Episode Synopsis
HOW THE BUSINESS STARTED.
Today we’re talking with Stephen Beaulac of SB Design Co.
Stephen has always been interested in building things with wood and loves spending hours in his shop creating. Planning to retire from his day job in November, he plans on pursuing his woodworking business full time. Stephen says that the look on someone’s face when they see something that he’s created is one of the things that truly inspires him to continue doing what he does.
DEVELOPING AND MARKETING THE BUSINESS.
So far, all of SB Design Co. clients have come by word of mouth. Even without a website, he’s still been able to sustain his business by selling direct and having a stand at large craft shows. Stephen uses chainsaws and sanding when he sources his wood. Stephen finds the reclaimed wood that he uses through ads and by following leads.
FUTURE PLANS.
SB Designs is going to grow! Beaulac says he plans on setting up his website, developing his sales team, and using good old-fashioned cold calling. Stephen can’t wait to see what he can do in his future clients’ homes with reclaimed wood and the pieces he’s made. His plans are to continue growing his business to the point where he can hire several employees and move into a larger shop.
ADVICE.
Stephen says not to let yourself be intimidated by other people’s work. Instead, enjoy it. There’s so much out there, and it’s all beautiful and inspiring.
