Lung cancer is the third most common type of cancer in both men and women. More men and women die every year from lung cancer than from any other form of cancer. In 2011, the National Lung Screening Trial showed a 20 percent decrease in lung cancer deaths in heavy smokers who received a low-dose lung screening exam.
