We usually don’t think of the New Testament as a blueprint of church membership but that’s exactly what it is. Paul, Peter, James, John, and others were giving instructions on how we should interact with one another and the world around us. Their letters were written because people needed to know how to live in Christian community. After all, they had never done it before. We too need instructions on Christian community because we’re tempted to live as the world lives. But Christ has called us to do it differently. As the Holy Spirit transforms our minds, our life together should NOT look like any other community we’re a part of.
