This week Bathurst 1000 winner Tomas Mezera joins us on the V8 Sleuth Podcast powered by Timken. In Part 1, Tomas opens up about growing up in Czechoslovakia under a communist regime and the remarkable story of how he defected to the west at the age of 20, including his time living on the streets in Austria before ending up in a refugee camp, and the dream that helped him choose Australia as his new homeland. We also cover his years working towards his racing dream and achieving success in Australia before heading to England to battle against future F1 stars, before securing a Bathurst 1000 victory which not even the team he drove for was expecting.

Oh, and he tells us the correct way to pronounce ‘Mezera’ – we’ve been saying it wrong all these years!
