Listen "Vivo"
Episode Synopsis
Philip, Jodi, and Alex review 'Vivo' from Columbia and Sony Pictures Animation, released in the U.S. on Netflix in August 2021. Directed by Kirk DiMicco and co-directed by Brandon Jeffords, this Cuba/Florida travelogue is the brainchild of Lin-Manuel Miranda, who first pitched the idea of a singing monkey--or kinkajou--back in 2010, following the Broadway success of 'In the Heights.' Miranda voices Vivo as well as composes along with long-time collaborator Alex Lacamoire. Vivo is the companion of elderly street musician Andrés, who is unable to travel to Florida to rekindle an old flame. Vivo makes the journey along with Andrés' great niece, Gabi, in order to deliver a piece of music representing the bond that survived the many years of being apart.
