Character is important to whom God wants us to be. We are called to have the image of Christ. But many do not, even though they know they should. What stops people from character change? Romans 5 talks about how we should glory in our suffering because it leads to perseverance, perseverance leads to character change and character change ultimately leads to hope. Because we lack a hope in God, we don't develop our character. We can't be kind because we don't know if it will work out. We can't be patient because will God come through?
