Listen "Baby Driver"
Episode Synopsis
From out of the Rough Cut archives comes this previously unreleased on-set interview with Baby Driver editor, Paul Machliss. Recorded while the action is literally happening on location, Paul details the unique workflow he employed for Edgar Wright's music video brought to life. Shot on 35mm film, Baby Driver not only required Paul to edit on set with an elaborate video tap and Qtake-based capture process, it was also almost completely "pre-edited" using music, sound fx, and "table read" audio before production ever began. This process allowed Paul to make sure the highly-choreographed action being shot would work perfectly once it was dropped into the Avid timeline in place of the temp material. Paul also discusses the unique editing aesthetic that has become synonymous with Edgar Wright movies. Subscribe to The Rough Cut for more great interviews with the heroes of the editing room!
