Episode Synopsis "Pete and Jim talk about a day at The Beaty Butte WildHorse Training Facility"
Spent the morning visiting with Pete and Jim about what they are up to at The Beaty Butte Wild Horse Training Facility Link to the YouTube Video The wild horses of Beaty Butte and the pioneers who forged this western community are inseparable from the historical fabric in this remote corner of the Oregon desert. Like the families that live under these, infinitely blue skies, the Butte’s horses are direct descendants that represent the enduring grit and drive that binds both to this limitless and cultural landscape. For the last three years, community members from Adel, Oregon and Lake and Harney County have collaborated with a broad group of stakeholders to determine how, together, they could best assist the growing list of uses on the 437,120-acre Beaty Butte Herd Management Area (HMA). From these meetings came a ground-breaking commitment to creating a first-of-its-kind, combined public, and private wild horse program. The key to this new concept is the non-profit, Beaty Butte Wild Horse Training Facility, in Adel. BBWHTF will make professionally-trained horses available for adoption to lovers of these mustangs while preserving the population within its mandated Appropriate Management Level (AML). The goal is to maintain a thriving ecosystem, preserve the historical connection to the horses, and reduce or end the horse round-ups that have become common. Website http://beatybuttewildhorses.com/
