THE RAMBLINGS OF A CABLE GUY

Por: Elton Howard Jr
I'm an insecure black man going to therapy trying to navigate through life without losing my mind dealing with my childhood damage and the current state our country. I was born to teenage parents in Orange mound Memphis, Tennessee. My Mom was 16 Dad was 19 when I was born. My Parents didn't stay together long after I was born. Fast forward 4 years 3 months my mother met, married, and gave birth to my younger sister. My mom and my sister's dad argued and sometimes fought a lot. They broke up after roughly 2 years. I later saw my mother being shot by her estranged husband. She was shot 5 times, including one bullet in the head. By the grace of God she survived, I was only 8 years old when I witnessed this. And that's just half of my childhood I have to unpack. Lately, I have been embracing my insecurities and working on my faults which has not been easy, but it has been oddly empowering. Join me on my mental health journey and my quest to have better "Emotional Intelligence" I've been a Cable Guy for 25 years and I love to hear myself talk.
