(1:20) - Smart T-shirt measures astronaut vital signs : Fun fact: astronauts lose up to 20% of muscle mass during their missions. If we want to make long-term space missions, we need to understand why and how this muscle atrophy takes place. That’s exactly what the German Aerospace Center aims to accomplish with their smart T-shirt and astronaut Matthias Maurer will be the first to bring the modern era of fashion to the new space age during his upcoming mission in the ISS. (10:35) - Wearable Tech Aids Freedivers, Cardiac Patients: Freedivers are essentially superhumans and researchers want to leverage the mechanics of their physiology by using it to prepare cardiovascular patients for surgery. The key to this effort is accurate real time data which is where Carnegie Mellon University’s special headband comes into play.
