Episode Synopsis
Writer, author, and Walt Disney World alumni of 20 years, Michael Lyons, stops by The Mouse and Me this week to talk about his amazing career and time spent at The Most Magical Place on Earth.
Michael is a freelance writer specializing in film, television, and pop culture. He’s contributed over 500 articles to such websites as AnimationWorldNetwork.com and fandom.com and the publications Cinefantastique, ReMIND, and Disney Magazine. He’s the author of the book, Drawn to Greatness: Disney’s Animation Renaissance, which chronicles the unprecedented growth at the Walt Disney Studio during the 1990s, resulting in such classic films as The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, and Toy Story. Michael also interviewed many artists, directors, and producers in the entertainment industry and these interviews are featured in several volumes of the book series Walt’s People: Talking Disney With the Artists Who Knew Him.
From 2000-2020, Michael worked full-time at The Walt Disney World Resort where he held several leadership positions in operations and training and development. He worked at all four of Walt Disney World’s theme parks, Disney’s retail and dining center, Disney Springs, and off-site company locations at Orlando International Airport. He was also part of the team that re-imagined Disney’s flagship retail location, The World of Disney, and the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
In 2020, Michael focused full-time on his writing. You can read his work on his blog, “Screen Saver: A Retro Review of TV Shows and Movies of Yesteryear,” in a weekly column on the website AnimationScoop.com, and you can listen to him as he co-hosts two podcasts: “Dis-Order: Every Disney Film” and “From Pencils to Pixels: The Animation Celebration Podcast.”
