We were part of the British Psychological Society Diversity & Inclusion group a long time ago. This is a deep conversation about inclusion and what it means for both of us.
The recipe she shares is:
Inclusion Recipe - Safe but brave
Ingredients- Courage, curiosity, empathy, time and a learning mindset.
We talk about:
- Taking advantage of the different strands people are bringing.
- We should be more afraid if we didn’t do anything.
- Inclusion is about both sameness and difference. Recognising someone is different and unique and just like you in their common-humanity.
- I would love a board where everyone looks around and asks what do we need to do in order to diversify our space and then how to make people feel more comfortable.
