Listen "SCFB 143: The Best Swing Band in the US "Swingadelic" is back with "Bluesville""
Episode Synopsis
In 90's, Swing music made a comeback on the charts with "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy", "Cherry Poppin Daddy's", and "Square Nut Zippers" and in 1998 "Swingadelic" was born. "Swingadelic" is a jazz/blues ensemble founded in 1998 in Hoboken, New Jersey by bassist Dave Post and while they tour the earth they are the house band of SWING 46 every Monday night in New York City. When they are in NYC it is a 10 piece band, when they are they on the road it grows, and when they record, it is nothing but a party.
In 2012, the band recorded "Toussaintville", a tribute to the Allen Toussaniant, and in 2017 they turned there attention to the work of Johnny Mercer called "Mercerville" both records are on the ZoHo label. They are back with a new album called, "Bluesville" also on the ZOHO label and it is just what the doctor ordered for this time period. While the album has three originals, they plays the hits, like Ray Charles's "Lonely Avenue", Willie Dixon's "I Love the Life I Live" and Mose Allison's "Parchman Farm" swings, its the funky blues and I can't wait to chat with Dave Post to see how he is able to juggle and create such a great album
