Listen "Ep. 53: Love 4 Immigrants"
Episode Synopsis
In this week's episode, I have Maribel Rodriguez joining me. Maribel Rodriguez loves her roots and her parents' countries, Colombia and Puerto Rico. Having been to both countries and growing up in Brooklyn, NY a melting pot of many cultures, she has a love for people of diverse cultures and walks of life. She studied photography at The Rochester of Technology and Social Enterprise at American University. This is where Love 4 Immigrants was founded as a graduate capstone project out of the frustration of seeing immigrants being depicted in the media in untruthful and inhumane ways. In addition to creating Love 4 Immigrants, she is an educator with LearnServe International. In this episode, Maribel and I discussed: Her baby project, Love 4 Immigrants, and the initiatives they rolled out over the past years Growing up in Brooklyn, a multi-cultural area, and how it shaped her worldview How her Columbian-Puerto Rican family background and living in New York helped her navigate different cultures Her parents' American dream for her Cultural pressures to do things a certain way and the expectations on women, on having family, and dating Challenges she encountered in her college life Social inequity that permeates in US society The struggle of integrating herself culturally with others and the things she is passionate about Advice for new and aspiring immigrants Connect with Maribel Rodriguez here: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/maribel-rodriguez-717a3461/ Website: https://love4immigrants.org/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/love4immigrants/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/love4immigrants/ Let's Connect!
