They discuss their ancestral connection to Kalo and how the garden is not just a space for growing food, but it's also a way to perpetuate their culture. They explain how growing Kalo has become a metaphor for their organization; it’s reflective of their ability to adapt, be resilient, and to continue on despite the hardships that they encounter. The garden has allowed them to build a relationship with the community, other Hawaiians on the continent, and other Native communities as a way to decolonize and dismantle Western ideologies that they were forced to assimilate to.
