Adam and Eve were troubled because of their sin.  They were in “trouble.”  When we are in trouble, it’s usually associated with someone being mad at us.  God is not mad at us when we are in trouble.  He is our refuge and strength!  Psalm 91:14, “The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love Me. I will protect those who trust in My name.”
Psalm 91:15-16, “When they call on Me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble (not just physical trouble, but emotional trouble and spiritual trouble like Adam and Eve, and Cain).  I will rescue and honor them (not get mad at them). I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”  —When we call on God!  God called to Adam “Where are you?  Why are you hiding from Me?  Why aren’t you calling on Me?  I’m your refuge and strength.  I will rescue you and honor you, not put you to shame.”
Hebrews 4:16, “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”  It’s in His presence that we receive mercy!  The devil wants us to think we have to earn mercy!  In His presence we find grace to help.  When we need it most.  Adam and Eve needed mercy and help the most right after they sinned!
Let’s stay in the presence of God!  That’s how God wants us to live.
