In the 2000 years from the time of Adam to the time of Noah, the world became so corrupt that God destroyed mankind to preserve a righteous line for a Savior to come to earth. Up to that time, God wasn’t punishing people for their sin. He was extending mercy. So, people began to think that sin was not bad. They mistook God’s mercy for approval and started trusting in their own goodness. Remember Lamech compared his killing someone to Cain murdering his brother, thinking I’m not nearly as bad as he was. “If God did not punish Cain, then I’m going to be fine!” Even today people will say things like, “How can a loving God send anyone to hell?” OR, “Just do the best you can and God will accept you!” “God’s not zapping anyone with lightning, so it must be okay!” John 14:6 tells us the way to the Father is through Jesus! So the real question is, “How can people not receive Jesus?” Romans 2:4, “Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that His kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? The goodness of God leads us to repentance. The word repentance means to change your mind. In other words, to quit thinking God doesn’t care if we sin or not. He does care; He wants us to stop! We weren’t created for sin. God still speaks!
