Listen "Go Ahead and Do It!"
Episode Synopsis
This lesson is NOT about blindly forging ahead! It’s not about giving in to peer pressure like when you were younger and someone called you “chicken” if you were too afraid to jump off the swing at its highest point… or ask that girl out on a date… or cheat on an exam…
Some people approach the Word of God like that. They think, “If I just go ahead and do it, it will all work out, whether I believe God’s Word at the time or not. I’ll just go ahead and get in debt. After all, the Word says all my needs are supplied so I’ll just go ahead and do it!” The devil tried to convince Jesus to, “Go ahead and do it! Jump off the top of the temple—the angels will catch You!”
This lesson IS about obeying God’s Word with faith—like the story in John 6 when the disciples responded to Jesus’ instructions to seat 5,000 men—plus their wives and children, in preparation for a meal—without going to the market to buy food! Jesus was not—and is not limited to natural resources! He is a limitless God!
When God asks us to do something, it will always be bigger than what we can think or imagine because He wants to show Himself strong on our behalf! 2 Chronicles 16:9 tells us, “The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.” God wants to do more for us than we can ask, think or imagine. “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21 NKJV
In other words, God asks us to do big things because He wants to do big things for us and through us! If we could do it on our own, we would get busy doing it without Him.
Jesus wants us to be yoked with Him. “Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29. We find rest for our souls when we let the Good Shepherd lead us instead of relying on our brains to find a natural solution. Instead, we can find rest when we are yoked to the presence of God. How else can we think supernaturally, but to be mindful of God’s presence in our lives?
