Cows are the controversial topic of the decade, despite being some of the most boring animals alive.  It's not a lie that they take a lot of land and resources.  As a result, some governments have decided that they're simply going to get rid of them with little warning.  It hasn't gone very well so far.  Weird, right?  Usually people love having their livelihoods destroyed overnight.
