Michelle O’Brien is a doctoral student in the Sociology Department and a Graduate Fellow at the Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology at the University of Washington. She received her Master of Arts degree from the University of Washington and her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan. Her research interests lie in the intersection of politics and demography; her dissertation attempts to tackle the complex relationship between conflict and migration. Michelle has extensive experience in Russia and has lived in Moscow and St. Petersburg. More recently, she conducted fieldwork in Nepal. She has a forthcoming co-authored contribution to an edited volume from Springer on Computational Demography.
